Alison Klymchuk

She/Her. Situated on unceded W̱SÁNEĆ, Lekwungen and Wyomilth territory, my recent projects investigate ownership, interactivity and ephemerality through urban interventions and installations that spotlight the value in the abandoned. With a foundation in painting, I explore unconventional surfaces such as used tarps, poly sheets and scavenged garbage, and I work to transform the language of the flattened picture plane. The unpredictable nature of the process functions to destabilize institutional standards of what is considered ‘art’, the spatial boundaries that hold these experiences and who has access to them.

The multi-layered experience centers around neglected spaces, objects and communities that call for interaction. Every point of access generates movement outside our everyday paths as a way to reinvigorate vital methods of sustainable living and to connect with a diversity of people, places and practices.
